Culture

Learners will understand how human beings create, learn, share, and adapt to culture. They will recognize the role of culture in shaping their lives and societies. Learners will become global citizens capable of varied perspectives, acquiring the potential to foster positive relations and interactions with diverse people. Cultural understanding will help learners make informed decisions in an increasingly interdependent society and interconnected world.

Geography and Economics

Learners will understand how environments impact the way cultures organize, produce, distribute, and consume goods and services. Learners should explore the effects of the environment on human activities, and the impact of human activities on the environment. Learners understand the significance of where people, places, and resources are located in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Institutions and Organizations

Organizations such as families, and civic, educational, governmental, and religious groups embody the core cultural values of the people who comprise them. Learners will understand how and why institutions are formed, maintained, and changed and how they influence (and are influenced by) individuals, groups, technological advances, and other institutions. This unit will allow students to compare religions as well as power, authority and the role of citizens in various systems of government in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Past, Present, and Future Perspectives

Global interdependence requires an understanding of complex connections and diverse perspectives. Therefore, learners examine how cultural histories have shaped the modern world, and how wants and needs stimulate advances in science and technology in the past, present, and future. Learners evaluate technological advances and media's influence on current event perspectives.
