The MMUUSD has long been committed to providing the support that all students need to become lifelong learners and effective, engaged citizens of the world. We publicly committed to this in our Ends Policies which were established in March of 2018. Over the past few years our district has begun working to support Black, Indigenous and students of color in some of our schools. This year the MMUUSD created an Anti-Bias Antiracism Council with representatives from each school building, administrators and the board to review and improve curricula, pedagogy, policies, practices, and programs at the school and system levels.
The MMUUSD is committed to combating racism and proactively teaching antiracism. We acknowledge that students, parents, and community members in our district still report experiencing and witnessing racism and hate speech in our schools.
The Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is committed to recognizing, addressing, and eradicating all forms of racism from our school systems.
Racism, racial violence, white supremacy, hate speech, and bigotry in all forms inside and outside of our schools.
That our district’s current curriculum, policies, and practices can do better to consistently combat racism and proactively teach antiracism.
The need for professional development and training to board, district and building-level leaders that focuses specifically on race-based equity and cultural competency.
To be actively antiracist and to dismantle systemic racism in our schools, to empower people of color and to hire a more diverse workforce.
To use a racial equity lens in our current review of policies and for all future board business. A racial equity lens includes but is not limited to: understanding racial disparities and learning why they exist, naming race explicitly when talking about problems and solutions and analyzing data and information that includes race.
To an annual review at the board level of how we are progressing on our racial equity goals.
