Fourth Grade Reading Workshop
Fourth graders are beginning to think and talk about books in complex ways. Students in fourth grade often read with a notebook or sticky notes in hand, keeping track of their thoughts, ideas, and questions. Often they meet in clubs or small groups to study books closely and/or conduct research on a variety of topics.
Interpreting Characters: Fourth graders learn to provide evidence from across the text to support theories about the character, setting, and story.
Purposeful Reading of Nonfiction: Fourth graders read nonfiction books to study topics of their choice.
Reading History:Fourth graders read nonfiction books to study a historical time period.
Historical Fiction Clubs:Fourth graders read historical fiction books in partnerships, small groups, or clubs.
