Grade 2 Social Studies

America's Earliest People

The 2nd-grade social studies curriculum is focused on comparing and contrasting self to others. In this history-based unit, students will be comparing and contrasting their lives to the lives of children in the past. This unit includes the study of Native Americans as well as people who lived in early Colonial times (circa the 1750's).

It"s A Small World/Comparing Cultures

"By recognizing various cultural perspectives, learners become capable of understanding diverse perspectives, thereby acquiring the potential to foster more positive relations and interactions with diverse people within our own nation and other nations."

-National Council for the Social Studies

The 2nd-grade social studies curriculum is focused on comparing and contrasting the student's own culture to the characteristics of other cultures. The focus of this unit is on comparing cultures, not countries. There can be many different cultures within a country, community or place. Where you live affects how you live.

Our Caring School

Students continue to work together to create a safe and caring environment. Children establish goals and develop rules as a community. First graders continue to develop their understanding of how they, staff, and volunteers fulfill important roles and responsibilities in the community.
